we're 100+ guys who get together 4 times a year to help out some local charities

At each event, we invite three charities to join us, each guy comes with $100 ready to give away, and at the end one of the charities walks away with the full amount.

FAQs

FOR MEN INTERESTED IN JOINING

What exactly is 100 Men Who Give a Damn about?

We are a group of 100+ guys who give a damn about giving back to our community. We meet together four times a year and commit to bring $100 ready to give away to a local charity. At each meeting three pre-selected local non-profits each pitch their case for support in a 5-minute presentation. Following the presentation each guy votes who they feel is most deserving of the funds. The charity with the most votes at the end of the night is presented with a $10,000+ donation.

So how are the charities chosen?

It starts with your nomination! Charities can only be nominated by members (Charities cannot nominate themselves). Three weeks prior to the event three eligible charities are randomly selected from the group of nominations and are contacted and asked to present at the event. Recipient charities can re-apply after 5 years, and non-recipient charities after 1 year.

Who qualifies as an eligible charity?

An eligible charity needs to meet the following three criteria:

  • Be in existence for at least one year

  • Have a local presence (no international charities, national charities have to agree to spend the funds in our community

  • Offer a tax receipt

Where are the events held?

Venues will be held in and around the Downtown core. If you have any suggestions or contacts for potential venues please get in touch. Contact Us Here

What about food/booze?

We are guys who give a damn, but also want to have a good time doing it. A complimentary drink ticket and appetizers are provided. Cash bar afterwards.

What is the commitment period (and what if I can’t make a meeting)?

The minimum commitment period is one year. This means four quarterly meetings and four donations of $100. If you are not able to attend a meeting, the charities are still dependent on your commitment! Please let us know ahead of time and we will make arrangements to collect your donation (and your vote) prior to the meeting.

Why don’t the three charities ‘split the pot’?

To put it simply, the charities prefer it that way. Many charities will be in the early stages of planning are in favour of one large donation rather than splitting. This does not mean the non-recipient charities don’t benefit – they will have a chance to tell their story to 100+ influential guys and get the word out about the great work that they do.

How much of my donation goes towards administration costs?

None. We donate 100% of the funds to the selected charity.

Is my donation tax deductible?

You bet. Tax receipts are issued by the charity voted to receive our donation.

Can I pay by credit card or e-transfer?

We’re currently exploring options, however at this time we can only process personal cheques. Personal cheques create the most transparency and easiest to process (i.e. getting you your tax receipt). If a cheque is completely out of the question, we will also process cash.

I’d like to sponsor an event or volunteer my time, who can I contact?

FOR SPONSORS

The positive impact that we're able to have is due largely in part to our amazing sponsors.
We are committed to running $0 budget events, which means that everything from our venue to the beverages to the website that you're reading this on is thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. The least that we can do is shout them out here and ask that you support them as much as they do for us.

We have two ways companies can work with us:

  1. Your company has services you would like to donate.
  2. Companies can match the donations of 100 Men Who Give a Damn Vancouver members by multiples of men. For example, the commitment of 10 men is $1,000. The amount you donate is up to you.

Please note cash donations will go directly to our participant charities (not to us); we cannot accept cash donations as we don't even have a bank account.
